CURATE FOR ST STEPHEN’S
|
 |
I’m very pleased to be able to announce that
we are getting a curate! The Rev Nick Burton was until recently curate
at St Helen’s, Ore, in Hastings deanery and he is joining us for the
next two years to complete his training. Nick is a stipendiary curate,
and he will be with us full time.
Technically, a curate is someone like me who has the ‘cure of souls’,
but these days the terms is used for those who are trainee ministers.
Nick will be working alongside me and taking part in all aspects of
church life. There will be some occasions when I will ask him to do
something that I traditionally do, as it’s my job to help him to
complete his training and equip him for the next stage of his ministry.

Nick is married to Rachel and they have three
children: Lydia, Daniel and Joseph, aged 4, 6 and 8. They lived in North
London before Nick started his training for the ministry and Nick worked
as an accountant.
Nick and I have much in common. Like me he got his degree at Bristol
University and trained for the ministry at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. He
was ordained deacon in Chichester Cathedral in 2005, 23 years after me. At present Nick and the diocese are busy looking for
accommodation in Bexhill and all being well, the family will move into the town
sometime after the end of the school term, probably in August. They might appear
in church but Nick doesn’t officially start with us until September.
There will be something organised by way of a welcome in September, probably
lunch after a morning service.
Please pray for Nick and Rachel and the family as they prepare to move over from
Hastings to Bexhill. It’s always an upheaval and clergy always change houses and
jobs at the same time!
Once they are here please do everything you can to
make them feel welcome, and part of our church family.
David Frost, Vicar. June 2009
