SUNDAY November 16th 2008 ~ 2 Before Advent

COLLECT FOR THIS SUNDAY
Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son was revealed to destroy the works of the devil and to make us the children of God and heirs of eternal life: grant that we, having this hope, may purify ourselves even as he is pure; that when he shall appear in power and great glory we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

BEFORE THE SERVICE
Please keep talking etc to a minimum before the service so that everyone can prepare for worship. Perhaps you might use this time to pray for those taking part in the service and the people sitting around you.

RECEIVING COMMUNION (8am and 6pm
Members of all Christian churches are welcome to receive communion at St Stephen’s. If you do not wish to receive please come up for a blessing, keeping your head bowed. If you would like communion but are unable to come up, please tell someone on duty and the bread and wine will be brought to you.

MEETING POINT SERVICE
Please note that the Meeting Point service that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday had been moved to the following Wednesday, November 26th, still at 11am. If you know of anyone that this might affect please let them know.

DIY GROUP
The group is meeting tomorrow this week and not on Thursday. Same time and venue as usual.

TOY SERVICE
At the back of the church there are leaflets from Chichester Family Support Work with guidelines as to the best sort of toys etc to provide for our Toy Service on December 7th. This year all our toys are being collected by Jude Harrington, an FSW worker in Hastings so they will all be used in our local area.

FUND RAISING DINNER
Wendy Gubby would like to thank everyone who made the dinner such a success. Those who bought and cooked and washed up, got the hall ready and cleared away afterwards. And of course to all of you who bought tickets and came along! The total raised was Ł409.20 – a great result!

CHRISTMAS MARKET ~ NOVEMBER 29th
If you have any items for the Christmas Market on Saturday November 29th please place them in the special box at the back of the church.

CHRISTIAN VOICES
This is the name of a new Musical Theatre Group that retells the Bible stories of the Old and New Testament. The members are people from different denominations and the group is looking for new members. If you are keen to act get in touch with Alan Young (p 220685 or
sw@aljac.plus.com) and for singing, David Chamberlin (p 223146 or natasha.chamberlin@yahoo.co.uk).

Post Communion Prayer
Gracious Lord, in this holy sacrament you give substance to our hope: bring us

A Declaration of Hope for 2008

With God’s help: I affirm that in 2008 I intend to bring:

Harmony in place of discord
Opportunities out of challenges
Praise instead of criticism
Encouragement to replace despair

We affirm that in our church, 2008 will be a year of:

Holiness and wholeness
One purpose for many people
Prayer that leads to action
Everyone finding a place to belong

We pray that for our community, 2008 will be a year of:

Healing for those who are broken
Order where there is chaos
Protection for the vulnerable
Enterprise for all

We pray for our nation, that 2008 will be a year of:

Health of body mind and spirit
Open-hearted attitudes
Passion for justice and mercy
Expectations and visions fulfilled

We pray that The God of Hope will give us the faith and courage to live lives that will release HOPE this year. I make this declaration and pray this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord. Amen.
